How We Handle Your Information

Effective: April 19, 2026  ·  Last updated: April 19, 2026

The Short Version

We don’t sell your information. Ever.

We collect your email address only if you give it to us through a signup form on this website. We use it to tell you when a book you signed up for is available — nothing else. We never sell, rent, or share your email with advertisers, data brokers, or marketing companies. You can unsubscribe anytime, and we’ll delete your address from our list when you do. That’s it.

1. Who we are

This website (books.nsctc.ca) is operated by Next Steps Certification Training Center (NSCTC), a training centre and publisher based in Canso, Nova Scotia, Canada. We publish books by Stephen Franks and others.

2. What we collect

The only personal information we actively collect is:

Our web server also automatically logs routine technical information (IP address, browser type, pages requested, timestamps) for security monitoring and general traffic analysis. These logs are not linked to your email address or identity.

We do not collect: your name (unless you write it in an email to us), your postal address, your phone number, payment information, social media data, or browsing information from other websites. We do not operate user accounts, so there is no profile, password, or saved personal data associated with you on this site.

3. Why we collect your email

Your email is used for one purpose: to notify you when the book or series you signed up for becomes available, and occasionally to share closely related NSCTC news (for example, when a new book in a series you’re following is announced). When you signed up, you chose which list you were interested in — we send you email relevant only to that list.

We do not use your email for any other purpose. We will not use it to send unrelated marketing, to profile you, or to feed into advertising targeting.

4. Where your email is stored

We use MailerLite, a third-party email service based in Lithuania (European Union), to manage our mailing lists and send email. When you subscribe, your email address is stored on MailerLite’s servers, which are located in the EU. MailerLite is contractually required to keep your data secure and use it only on our behalf. You can read their privacy policy at mailerlite.com/legal/privacy-policy.

Because MailerLite is outside Canada, your data is subject to EU privacy law (the GDPR) while in their custody. The GDPR protections are generally considered comparable to or stronger than Canadian law. We’ve chosen MailerLite specifically because they meet a high standard for user privacy.

That’s the only third party involved. We do not share your information with advertisers, affiliate networks, data brokers, analytics companies, or any other third parties. We do not sell email lists. We will never sell your email address.

We may disclose information if required to do so by law (for example, in response to a valid court order from a Canadian court).

5. How long we keep it

Until you unsubscribe, or until you ask us to delete it — whichever comes first.

Every email we send includes an unsubscribe link at the bottom. When you click it, your address is immediately removed from our active list. MailerLite may retain a hashed record of your unsubscription so that we don’t accidentally re-send to you, which is a standard anti-spam practice.

If you sign up but never confirm your subscription (we use double opt-in), your unconfirmed address is automatically deleted after 30 days.

6. Your rights under Canadian law

Under the Personal Information Protection and Electronic Documents Act (PIPEDA), you have the right to:

To exercise any of these rights, email us at support@nsctc.ca. We will respond within 30 days, as required by law.

We also comply with Canada’s Anti-Spam Legislation (CASL), which is why we use double opt-in (you have to confirm your email before we add you to a list) and why every email has a visible unsubscribe link.

7. Security

Your email address is stored in MailerLite’s encrypted database. All transmission to and from this website uses HTTPS. We do not collect payment information, bank details, or other sensitive financial data on this site — there is nothing here that would be valuable to a bad actor beyond an email address. While no system is ever perfectly secure, we’ve deliberately kept the attack surface small.

8. Cookies and tracking

We do not use Google Analytics, Facebook Pixel, advertising cookies, or any behavioural tracking. This site loads two third-party resources that may set cookies on their own domains:

We do not receive or use the information these cookies collect. If you block third-party cookies in your browser, this site will still work — the forms and fonts may just take slightly longer to load on your first visit.

9. Children

Our newsletter signups are not directed at children under 13. We do not knowingly collect email addresses from children. If you are a parent or guardian and believe your child has signed up without your consent, please contact us and we will delete the information promptly.

10. Changes to this policy

If we change how we handle your data, we’ll update this page and revise the “Last updated” date at the top. For meaningful changes — for example, introducing a new third-party tool that would touch your data — we’ll email existing subscribers to let them know before the change takes effect.
